When Thakral started his collection in 2007, he was more interested in transport related posters. But he soon started to collect non-transport related posters, calendars and lithographs. He started researching about techniques, companies, artists and styles. This led to him collecting vintage posters. The majority of his collection are stone lithographs and offset lithographs, as well as woodblock prints. Some are based on original paintings by Raja Ravi Varma, who imported lithographic presses in India to start producing coloured lithographs of his own artwork for mass distribution.

His Indian movie poster collection features Bollywood and other regional cinema, with a strategic formula of minimal text and a vibrant kitchy illustration of the 'hero' and 'heroine' to catch the attention of the masses.
